The human brain is not so general in its behavior and function that it exists and functions outside the same specifics as the heart, which evolved to pump blood, and the liver, which detoxifies blood. Meaning, the ascription to the brain that it lies outside evolved adaptive purposes seems contrived and motivated by something other than logic. The brain is assumed to be general-purpose, but, again, applying this idea to the brain is motivated by emotional needs rather than by logical conclusions. If we assume a God that we can love and be loved by, that we worship, who directs our lives, the cold logic of evolved adaptations actually controlling our behavior is an assault upon our worldview and sense of identity.
